First the good news. British Naturism members (and maybe even some NAG supporters!) will maybe remember that on two occasions over the last 5 years I have put motions to the BN AGM for it to withdraw from International Naturist Federation affiliation. The motion was defeated on both occasions, but during the debate, BN did not argue that INF was fit for purpose, only that they needed more time to make the necessary changes. Since then little has changed at INF, and in my opinion it is still ineffective but costly. I thought that the various national Naturist federations had more or less given up on attempts at reforming INF, but it seems that some quiet diplomacy has been going on in the background. It was recently announced that the following nominations for INF office have made for the elections at INF’s forthcoming Congress scheduled for October:
President: Stéphane Deschênes (Canada)
VP-INF-FNI treasurer: Huub Giesen (Netherlands)
Assessor Europe: Leticia Medina Andrés (Ireland)
Responsible for social media IT: Maja Penko (Slovenia)
Protection of naturism: Hector Martinez (Mexico)
These people are all progressive reformers and, if elected, could transform INF into a genuine engine for naturist acceptance internationally.
Now for the bad news. The INF Congress has just been postponed until next April (2021), due to Covid-19. This will keep the ‘old guard’ in power 6 months beyond their tenure, and provide them with time to prepare a rear-guard action against the reformers. We must hope that they don’t try the sort of electoral trickery which left such bitterness after the last Congress and that the forces for change can eventually prevail.
Many naturists don’t like politics, but we all want the freedom to be naturists without fear, so some politics is a necessary evil if we are to move forward. Fingers crossed!
NAG is not a member of INF, and so can not directly influence the outcome of elections, but we feel that all naturists should know what the self-proclaimed World representative of Naturism is getting up to. If you are a member of BN, you can make your views known to them, as they are voting members of INF.
